Hypogene mineralization and fluid flow in high-grade BIF hosted iron ore
Sao Francisco Craton, Minas Gerais, Brazil
This project investigates high-grade BIF-hosted iron ore in the Iron Quadrangle (IQ) at the southern border of the Sao Francisco Craton, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Despite 100 years of mining and exploration in the IQ, there is still a distinct dearth of information on the geological and geochemical environment in which different hypogene iron ores (e.g. massive magnetite, martite, granoblastic hematite, microplaty hematite, specularite) formed.
