The CET’s strong research team has multi-disciplinary and multi-commodity expertise. Individual students and researchers work together across disciplines and commodities at multiple scales, from global geodynamics and lithospheric architecture to the scale of the deposit. The multi-disciplinary and multi-scale focus produces markedly better outcomes for projects and ensures that the necessary breadth and depth of technical experience is integrated to meet the challenges facing the exploration industry. The Special Projects Theme Leader is Director Campbell McCuaig.
Although the CET focuses on the iron, magmatic and gold mineral systems, projects in other commodities are pursued given industry demand and strategic alignment with ongoing research streams. Research outcomes and expertise are combined to provide:
- comprehensive understanding of the 4D evolution of host terrains,
- the position of the respective mineral systems within this framework,
- the extraction of mappable criteria that can be applied to exploration strategies within a business risk framework at all scales, and
- the development of tools and techniques to more effectively target major mineral deposits.
