Personal Profile

Research Output / Publications

Quentin Masurel currently holds a Postdoctoral position at the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia. His current research focuses on the study of gold deposits in Paleoproterozoic terranes of Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa). Quentin is using a multiscale and multidisciplinary approach, which combines field geology, structural geology, petrography, geochronology and the interpretation of geophysical data sets.

Quentin received his BSc in Geology from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie (France) in 2009 and his MSc in Economic Geology from Luleå University of Technology (Sweden) in 2011. Quentin subsequently moved to Western Australia and worked as an exploration geologist for BM Geological Services Pty Ltd. During that time, he spent 6 months at Carosue Dam with Saracen Gold Mines and 2 months in Kambalda with St-Yves Goldfields. Quentin put an end to his fly-in fly-out life in order to undertake an exciting and challenging PhD project at UWA under the supervision of John Miller (CSIRO), Nicolas Thébaud (UWA-CET) and Stanislav Ulrich (AngloGold Ashanti). His study was entitled “4D evolution of the Sadiola-Yatela gold district, Kédougou-Kénieba inlier, West Africa. Quentin’s multidisciplinary study was a one-on-one project with AngloGold within the larger West African Exploration Initiative (WAXI). His research has documented variability in gold mineralisation at the deposit-scale and indicated that the Eburnean tectono-thermal event (ca. 2080-2050 Ma) represented the geodynamic engine that empowered orogenic gold mineralisation in the Kédougou-Kénieba inlier. The results of his research were aimed directly at aiding Brownfields and Greenfields exploration strategies.
