PORPHYRY Cu-Au One Day Short Course - Centre for Exploration Targeting

PORPHYRY Cu-Au One Day Short Course

PORPHYRY Cu-Au One Day Short Course
Start Date:
20 Mar 2023
End Date:
20 Mar 2023
Location:
The University Club of Western Australia

The Centre for Exploration Targeting and Curtin University will run a one-day short course on Porphyry Cu-Au deposits and critical magmatic-hydrothermal processes with Prof. John Dilles our keynote speaker. Prof. Dilles is a Professor Emeritus at Oregon State University in the USA and is presently working at Curtin University as a Fulbright Fellow.

The short course will see a mixture of talks on: (1) case studies of porphyry copper-gold deposits (e.g., Ok Tedi, Butte, Boddington, and the newly discovered Cayley lode in Victoria), and (2) magmatic-hydrothermal processes that were crucial in the formation of a giant porphyry copper-gold system. During the afternoon there will be a one-on-one debate between Profs. John Dilles and Bob Loucks (CET Adjunct Professor) on the hotly debated porphyry fertility indicators. A panel (all speakers of the day and some selected industry geologists) plus anybody who wants to contribute from the audience, will discuss the topic “What makes high grade porphyry systems”.

A sundowner back at the CET- Robert Street Building Courtyard will be organised by the joint Curtin-CET student chapter of SEG and SGA. This will give the students the opportunity to mingle with the industry geologists.
