About
Nicolas was first introduced to research during his Master thesis work focussing on the controls of gold mineralisation of the Wasamac deposit in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt in QC, Canada, hosted by UQAM and supervised by Michel Jébrak. This first step into research led Nicolas to pursue his studies with a PhD project part of the West African Exploration Initiative program (WAXI) at the CET (UWA), applying a multiscale and multidisciplinary approach to identify the controls on gold mineralisation in central Cote d’Ivoire, under the supervision of Nicolas Thébaud. After his PhD, Nicolas worked for the industry for 5 years, undertaking Project, Senior and Generative roles for junior and major companies in Western Australia, exploring for gold and lithium mostly. Facing exploration capability gaps to effectively find new mineralisation as an explorer, Nicolas joined the CET as a Research Fellow to contribute on bridging some of these gaps. His first role will be to pursue the Multiscale Analysis of High-grade Gold Intercepts (MAHGI) Project work that aims at better understanding the geological processes that are responsible for the ‘bonanza gold grades’, while developing new research projects.
Nicolas’s core interests lie in understanding controls leading to magmatic and hydrothermal mineralisation types, with a specific interest in hybrid mineralised systems and complex structural settings. During this research appointment, Nicolas’ aim is to remain close to the industry needs, and work towards enhancing exploration capabilities.
