About

Ignacio completed his BSc and MSc at the University of Oviedo, Spain, specializing in stratigraphy and basin analysis; and completed his PhD at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, focussing in geochemistry.

Ignacio then worked in industry in Europe and Australia, and in academia as an Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia. He is currently Principal Geochemist at CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in Perth, Australia. He has conducted research or mineral exploration projects on five continents, including Canada, USA, Papua New Guinea, China, Europe, South Africa, India and Brazil.

Ignacio’s work at CSIRO involves the coordination of a diverse portfolio of multi-disciplinary and data integration projects in different regions within Australia. At present, his main research is focussed on landscape evolution, weathering processes, trace element mobility in continental crust and mineral exploration under cover. He is a panel member of several diverse non-profit organizations that promote Earth Sciences, an adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, and an Associate Editor of Journals such as Ore Geology Reviews and Minerals.
