The UWA Ore Deposit Field Excursion to South Africa (MING5503), part of the Masters of Ore Deposits at UWA, will take place this year, on 12-24 October 2025.
This trip provides students and professionals with a guided tour of some of the richest mines and best geological exposures globally. This exclusive biennial course looks at a wide range of mineral systems that control the formation of ore deposits for different commodities, including gold, platinum-group elements, iron, diamonds, rare earth elements and base metals.
The field trip to this geological wonderland addresses questions related to the large-scale lithospheric controls on the unique metal enrichment of the Kaapvaal Craton, examining the commonalities among different magmatic and hydrothermal ore-forming mechanisms that generated some of the richest and most diversified ore bodies in the world.
