About
Dr Chris Gonzalez is a Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, joining the Centre to lead data infrastructure development for geoscience research. Chris is a computational Earth scientist with broad expertise in numerical modelling, mineral phase stability, and deep carbon cycling, with research interests that span hydrogeology, mineral exploration, and plate deformation.
Chris’s PhD work focused on modelling the deep carbon cycle to better understand carbon storage in the Earth’s interior over geologic time, with implications for climate stability, continental dynamics, and diamond formation. He has held academic and technical roles at UWA, Monash University, the Centre for Exploration Targeting, and the Minnesota Geological Survey.
Chris is leading the design and deployment of secure, scalable data storage and analytics platforms tailored to complex geoscientific datasets. His role involves advancing cloud-based infrastructure and data engineering solutions, as well as collaborating with academic, industry, and government partners to support more integrated, accessible, and intelligent approaches to Earth science research.
